Material Handling Safety

Lifting heavy objects is a leading cause of workplace injuries. A 2001 Bureau of Labor Statistics report stated that 36% of injuries that involved missing workdays were the result of shoulder and back injuries. Overexertion and cumulative trauma were listed as the biggest factors in these injuries.

The United States Department of Labor and OSHA have many valuable resources on the occupational risks of handling heavy materials.
